It is the right and privilege of ATA members to petition for additional candidates for elective office for the next 30 days (until July 27).

The ATA Board of Directors accepts the recommendations of the ATA Nominating Committee for the following slate for the 2012 ballot:

ARTICLE V - Committees

Nominating Committee

Section 5. After ascertaining willingness to serve on the part of the potential nominees, the Nominating Committee shall nominate at least two members for the offices of President and directors. The nominating committee shall notify the Secretary of those members nominated at least 75 days prior to each annual meeting. The Secretary shall then notify the membership of the proposed candidates for elective office. Within the next thirty days, nominations by petition for elective office may be submitted. Such petitions require the signatures of at least 5% of the active members. Ballots are to be sent to the membership thirty days in advance of the annual meeting.

ATA BYLAWS rev 2011

ATA Bylaws were revised last year to require the ATA Board to determine that constituencies of the membership are well served and well represented. The current Bylaws pertaining to the Nominating Committee read:

ARTICLE II - Directors and Board of Directors

Election of Directors

Section 2. (a) There shall be between 13-15 directors, the officers, and eight additional directors, two of whom shall be elected each year to serve four-year terms as described below.

Section 2. (b) In addition to the officers, two to four directors, the exact number to be determined on a yearly basis by the Board of Directors, shall be elected each year for a four-year term to commence at the conclusion of the business meeting.

Section 2. (c) Directors will represent the professional disciplines of the ATA members. The Board of Directors will determine the targeted "categories" that need to be filled based on the Board composition and communicate this information to the Nominating Committee as guidance for their deliberations.

ATA BOARD of DIRECTORS
At their monthly Board call on March 15, 2012 the ATA Board of Directors discussed those members who are rotating off the Board in 2012 and the constituencies they represent as well as the ATA membership demographics. The Board unanimously agreed to recommend to the Nominating Committee that one of the two slots for directors should be a physician in practice and that gender balance requires a woman to be elected. Since our elections are competitive this would necessitate that 2 physicians in practice be nominated to stand for election for the one board position. Similarly, two women would stand for election for one or more board
