  4. Long-term quality of life may be decreased in patients with hyperthyroidism caused by Graves’ disease

Graves' Ophthalmopathy

  1. Inhibition of tumor necrosis factor-a activity reduces inflammation in patients with Graves’ eye disease

Hypothyroidism

  1. Subclinical hypothyroidism is not associated with neuropsychologic abnormalities or symptoms of hypothyroidism
  2. Fibrous tumors can cause consumptive hypothyroidism
  3. Patients with brain tumors treated with radiation may have hypopituitarism later

Nodular Goiter

  1. High serum antithyroid antibody values in patients with thyroid nodules are associated with biopsies suspicious for thyroid carcinoma
  2. Benign thyroid nodules and carcinomas may be distinguished by positron-emission tomography using fluorodeoxyglucose

Thyroid Cancer

  1. Hurthle-cell carcinomas of the thyroid may have features of either papillary carcinomas or follicular carcinomas

Drug Effects on Thyroid Function

  1. Metformin may inhibit thyrotropin secretion in patients with hypothyroidism treated with thyroxine

Thyroid Function and Obesity

  1. Body mass and serum thyrotropin are positively associated in normal subjects
  2. Body mass and serum thyrotropin are not associated in euthyroid patients with thyroid disorders
