The Membership Committee uses these guidelines when reviewing
applicants for membership in the American Thyroid Association:

  1. Attendance at American Thyroid Association annual meetings: Demonstrated interest in the Association is of paramount importance in seeking membership. Only under very unusual circumstances does the Committee consider an applicant who has not attended annual meetings in the years leading up to the year of membership application.
  2. Training: The Committee considers where the applicant was trained, the extent of training, and the thyroid orientation of the training.
  3. Current teaching, clinical, and research activities: The Committee evaluates the applicant's effort in and commitment to thyroid-oriented activities, such as the percentage of research, teaching, and/or clinical time devoted to thyroid-oriented work.
  4. Publications and presentations
  5. Letter of recommendation from ATA member sponsor
  6. Miscellaneous: special merit in background
