Spanish Language Brochures for Patients
Offered on American Thyroid Association Website
(FALLS CHURCH, VA)—Patient education brochures providing an in-depth look at thyroid disorders are now available in Spanish language on the American Thyroid Association’s (ATA) website (www.thyroid.org/patients/brochures.html).
“Each brochure provides patients with detailed information about the causes, symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of a specific thyroid disorder,” said Whitney Woodmansee, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine, Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center @ Fitzsimons in Aurora, Colo.
There are nine Spanish language brochures that cover the following topics: hypothyroidism, hyperthyroidism, thyroid nodules, cancer of the thyroid, nuclear radiation & the thyroid, thyroid disease and pregnancy, radioactive iodine use for thyroid diseases, thyroid surgery, and thyroiditis.
“We are delighted to have the opportunity to offer these valuable educational materials to Spanish-speaking patients who want to learn more about specific thyroid disorders,” said M. Regina Castro, MD, Senior Associate Consultant in the Division of Endocrinology and Assistant Professor of Medicine at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn. “Additional brochures covering other important topics, such as Graves disease, post-partum thyroiditis, thyroid hormone treatment, thyroid and weight, childhood head and neck irradiation and others will soon be made available, as well to our Hispanic community.”
The American Thyroid Association, www.thyroid.org, is the North American professional society for physicians and researchers specializing in diseases of the thyroid gland. The ATA promotes excellence and innovation in clinical care, research, education, and public advocacy.
