P. Reed Larsen, MD Awarded
American Thyroid Association’s
Thyroid Pathophysiology Medal
(FALLS CHURCH, VA)—P. Reed Larsen, MD, of Boston, was honored with
the American Thyroid Association’s (ATA) Thyroid Pathophysiology
Medal on Oct. 2, 2004, during the ATA 76th Annual Meeting in Vancouver,
British Columbia, Canada.
The award recognizes outstanding research contributions to the understanding of thyroid physiology or the pathophysiology of thyroid disease. Dr. Larsen was honored with this award for the impact his research in thyroid physiology and pathophysiology has had on subsequent research and clinical practice in thyroid disorders.
He is a Professor of Medicine at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Harvard Medical School, in Boston. Dr. Larsen is also Chief of the Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Hypertension and a Senior Physician at the hospital. In addition, he serves on the editorial boards of Endocrine Reviews and Endocrinology and as a consulting editor of the Journal of Clinical Investigation. Dr. Larsen has co-authored more than 200 research papers, 80 textbook chapters, reviews, and published symposia, as well as seven books and monographs.
Previously, he served as an Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and as an Attending Physician at the Presbyterian University Hospital in Pittsburgh. Dr. Larsen received his medical degree at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City.
Dr. Larsen is an ATA past president and serves on the editorial board of Thyroid. He has also served in numerous other leadership positions. In addition, Dr. Larsen is a recipient of several ATA awards, including the Distinguished Service Award, the Van Meter Award, and the Parke-Davis Distinguished Lectureship. He has been widely honored with many other national and international awards including the Edwin B. Astwood Award of the Endocrine Society. Dr. Larsen has also been active with other medical organizations and has served on several major regional and national committees.
