E. Chester Ridgway, MD, Receives
American Thyroid Association's Paul Starr Award
(FALLS CHURCH, VA)—E. Chester Ridgway, MD, of Denver, received the 2003 Paul Starr Award at the American Thyroid Association's (ATA) 75th Annual Meeting in Palm Beach, Fla. As part of the award, he presented a major lecture, titled "TSH: Reverse Translation of Human Assays to Molecular Physiology," on Sept. 20 during the meeting.
Dr. Ridgway was honored with this prestigious award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to clinical thyroidology. The award is supported by ATA member Boris Catz, MD, and by Monarch Pharmaceuticals.
Head of the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center's (UCHSC) Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes, Dr. Ridgway also is the senior associate dean of Academic Affairs in the School of Medicine. He is the 2003-2004 president of The Endocrine Society and a past president of the ATA.
He has more than 30 years of experience in thyroid research and molecular biology and was one of the developers of the thyroid-stimulating hormone test for hypothyroidism, the most commonly used diagnostic test for thyroid diseases. An early advocate of building a science base in clinical care training, Dr. Ridgway incorporated molecular biology into every discipline of endocrinology at UCHSC and has built a teaching and research emphasis in the department.
Widely published, Dr. Ridgway has authored hundreds of scientific articles and publications and has been honored with numerous awards.
