Gilbert Daniels, MD, Named a Director
on the American Thyroid Association Executive Council
(FALLS CHURCH, VA)—Gilbert H. Daniels, MD, of Boston, was recently
named a director on the Executive Council of the American Thyroid Association
(ATA), the leading professional society of physicians and researchers
who specialize in diseases of the thyroid gland. He was elected on Sept.
30, 2004, during the ATA 76th Annual Meeting in Vancouver, British Columbia,
Canada, and will serve a four-year term.
“My major goals for the ATA are to continue to increase its national
visibility, to promote collaborative efforts with patient-oriented thyroid
organizations, and to explore ways to make the ATA attractive to young
endocrinologists,” said Dr. Daniels.
Dr. Daniels is Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Co-Director of the Thyroid Clinic at Massachusetts General Hospital. His primary interests are patient care and physician and patient education.
A member of the ATA since 1978, he has served on various committees, including the Education Committee, which he chaired; the Distinguished Service Award Committee; the Standards of Care Committee; the Awards Committee; the Ad Hoc Committee on Thyroid Function Testing; the Clinical Affairs Committee; the Nominating Committee; and the Thyroid Orphan Drug Task Force, which he currently chairs. In 1999, Dr. Daniels received the Distinguished Clinician Award of the American College of Endocrinolgy.
