Gilbert Daniels, MD, Named a Director
on the American Thyroid Association Executive Council

(FALLS CHURCH, VA)—Gilbert H. Daniels, MD, of Boston, was recently named a director on the Executive Council of the American Thyroid Association (ATA), the leading professional society of physicians and researchers who specialize in diseases of the thyroid gland. He was elected on Sept. 30, 2004, during the ATA 76th Annual Meeting in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and will serve a four-year term.

“My major goals for the ATA are to continue to increase its national visibility, to promote collaborative efforts with patient-oriented thyroid organizations, and to explore ways to make the ATA attractive to young endocrinologists,” said Dr. Daniels.

Dr. Daniels is Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Co-Director of the Thyroid Clinic at Massachusetts General Hospital. His primary interests are patient care and physician and patient education.

A member of the ATA since 1978, he has served on various committees, including the Education Committee, which he chaired; the Distinguished Service Award Committee; the Standards of Care Committee; the Awards Committee; the Ad Hoc Committee on Thyroid Function Testing; the Clinical Affairs Committee; the Nominating Committee; and the Thyroid Orphan Drug Task Force, which he currently chairs. In 1999, Dr. Daniels received the Distinguished Clinician Award of the American College of Endocrinolgy.

The American Thyroid Association, www.thyroid.org, is the North American professional society for physicians and researchers specializing in diseases of the thyroid gland. The ATA promotes excellence and innovation in clinical care, research, education, and public advocacy.
