Alan Farwell, MD, Named a Director
on the American Thyroid Association Executive Council
(FALLS CHURCH, VA)—Alan P. Farwell, MD, of Worcester, Mass., was
recently named a director on the Executive Council of the American Thyroid
Association (ATA), the leading professional society of physicians and
researchers who specialize in diseases of the thyroid gland. He was recently
appointed by the ATA president to fill an open, one-year position.
“It’s a privilege to be a part of the ATA leadership,” said Dr. Farwell, ”I look forward to furthering our strong commitment to patient care, research, education, and public health issues involving thyroid-related disorders.”
Dr. Farwell is Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, Attending/Staff Physician at the University of Massachusetts Memorial Health Care, Courtesy Staff Physician at Milford/Whitinsville Regional Hospital, and Director of the Endocrinology Clinic.
An active member of the ATA, Dr. Farwell recently completed his term as chair of the Patient Education and Advocacy Committee and as a member of the Website Task Force. In addition, he chaired the Education Committee and the ATA Alliance for Patient Education and was a member of the Program Committee and the Patient Education Task Force. Dr. Farwell serves as a scientific reviewer for the ATA journal, Thyroid, as well as the Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism, American Journal of Physiology, Endocrinology, Endocrine Reviews, and on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Endocrinological Investigation.
His other professional leadership experience includes serving on the Board of Directors of the Thyroid Foundation of America and on the Web Content Review Board of the National Women’s Health Resource Center. Dr. Farwell has co-authored over 160 journal articles, textbook chapters, and abstracts.
