ATA FELLOWS’ EDUCATIONAL TRACK AND FELLOWS’ GRANT PROGRAM
The American Thyroid Association (ATA) invites you to attend the 83rd Annual Meeting of the ATA taking place October 16-20, 2013 at the Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The ATA offers educational programs for clinical, basic and surgical fellows. Grant opportunities which have some distinctions are available to fellows, residents, students, and interns as well. Please review the requirements and steps below to determine eligibility and apply for grant funding.
The ATA 2013 Fellows’ Educational Track is comprised of special sessions Thursday, October 17 through Saturday, October 19 of the ATA meeting specifically designed to enhance the “Fellow experience” at the ATA Annual Meeting. These sessions run concurrently with the Annual Meeting program sessions. Leaders in the field present on such topics as career choices, how to set up a thyroid practice, how to get published and strategies for manuscript submission. The track is open to all registered Annual Meeting fellows. Benefits include complimentary buffet lunches, early riser continental breakfasts and ATA Annual Banquet discounts. Funding assistance, however, is limited to fellows accepted in the Clinical, Basic or Surgical Fellows’ Grant Programs.

I am not part of the ATA Fellows’ Grant Program, how do I benefit at the ATA meeting?
Fellows, residents, graduate students, and interns who are not eligible for the ATA Fellows’ Grant Program are invited to attend the ATA meeting at their own expense and participate in the fellows’ educational track sessions. All fellows receive special meeting registration rates (further discounts apply for ATA member fellows). ATA membership is free for all fellows, easy to complete and well worth the additional savings. All registered fellows at the ATA meeting can attend the ATA Fellows’ Track sessions as long as there is space available. Other benefits available to all fellows include complimentary buffet lunch (Thursday through Saturday of the meeting) and discounted tickets to the ATA Annual Banquet. In addition, non-funded fellows may request shared rooms on a self-paid, as-available basis. Contact the ATA at scano@thyroid.org for assistance if you are interested in shared-room accommodations.
20th Annual Endocrine Fellows Conference (EFC) (admin@efcthyroid.org)
Dr. E. Chester Ridgway from the University of Colorado School of Medicine offers an annual one-day intensive educational program for fellows. Traditionally, this program takes place on the first day of the ATA meeting (Wednesday, October 16) prior to the start of the ATA opening session and is funded and managed completely separate from the ATA Fellows’ Track Program. The Annual EFC program affords its attendees with registration and travel assistance; meals provided within the conference and shared sleeping room accommodations for the one day program.
The EFC program is space limited and accepts participants until capacity is reached. All Endocrinology Training Program Directors for ACGME approved programs receive invitations to select individuals to participate in this program. Details regarding this program will be provided by the EFC program coordinators (admin@efcthyroid.org, not the ATA) to all program directors once available. ATA will link to the EFC website once the program details have been confirmed by the EFC. Clinical Fellows accepted into the EFC Program are automatically accepted into the ATA Clinical Fellows’ Grant Program (See #1 above), if desired.
