A brief description of how your current professional activities reflect your interest in clinical thyroid disease or thyroid-related scientific investigation.

My research over the past 12 years has focused on improving our understanding of the pathogenesis of thyroid cancer, on advancing the diagnosis and management of thyroid dysfunction and on preventing some of the long-term complications of thyroid dysfunction. I have authored several original publications as well as reviews and book chapters in the field of thyroid disease. I am involved in the setting of UK national guidelines for the management of thyroid diseases and am an active member of the British Thyroid Association Executive Board.

A brief description of what motivates you to join the ATA

I have presented my data at several ATA conferences over the past 12 years. In addition, I have spent a 6 week sabbatical with valued colleagues at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minnesota. I am a regular reviewer for Thyroid. I would like to increase liaison with colleagues in the field of thyroidology by joining a world-renowned association striving to improve the management of patients with thyroid diseases.

Laura Boucai, MDA brief description of how your current professional activities reflect your interest in clinical thyroid disease or thyroid-related scientific investigation

Since my fellowship, I have been trying to understand the effects of age, sex, and race on the TSH distribution. More recently, I became interested in the biology of thyroid cancer. To pursue clinical and basic science research on thyroid cancer I am joining the team at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center as an Assistant Member.

A brief description of what motivates you to join the ATA

I believe that joining the ATA will provide me with ample opportunity to interact with colleagues in the thyroid cancer field, to acquire formal and informal training in thyroid related issues, and to be up-to-date in both the clinical and basic thyroid cancer research arenas.

Daniel Joseph Toft, MD, PhDA brief description of how your current professional activities reflect your interest in clinical thyroid disease or thyroid-related scientific investigation

While my research is primarily focused on the development of novel therapies using nanotechnology platforms to treat breast cancer, I hope to expand this focus into other endocrine cancers including thyroid cancer, which is my primary clinical interest.

A brief description of what motivates you to join the ATA

My clinical activity is largely focused on thyroid cancer and the treatment of thyroid nodules; thyroid health is the area of endocrinology with which I most strongly identify. The research and clinical guidelines provided by Thyroid and the ATA have been the foundation for my clinical practice.
