SECRETARY'S UPDATE

Secretary's Update
Victor J. Bernet, MD
Secretary/Chief Operating Officer

Dear ATA Colleagues,

Happy New Year wishes to all our ATA family from me, the ATA Leadership and ATA Headquarters' Staff. In this month of January, typically a time of resolutions and refocusing our efforts and attention, we recall a year ago the ATA strategic conference which was held to identify ways in which the ATA could look to the future with initiatives to improve thyroid awareness and treatment, grow our influence, and thereby increase our ability to serve patients. The strategic conference attendees, representing a diverse group of ATA members, spent the weekend defining goals for the ATA to pursue. At the end of the process, the group settled on four areas on which to concentrate efforts over the next 2-3 years or longer as needed. These goals are:

  1. To establish the ATA as the patient-preferred resource for education and information pertaining to thyroid disease.
  2. Promote the visibility of the ATA as the global leader in thyroid health.
  3. Establish an integrative process that catalyzes innovative, meaningful and fundable thyroid research.
  4. Increase financial resources to support and expand ATA programs.

Editorial Board service opportunity- Clinical Thyroidology for the Public (CTFP)

Dr. Alan Farwell, EIC of CTFP, is looking for a few good editorial board members – please email bsmith@thyroid.org with your interest in serving on the CTFP Editorial Board.

The goal of CTFP is to bring to patients the most up-to-date, cutting edge thyroid research. Editorial Board members are asked to "translate" the summaries presented in Clinical Thyroidology into lay language for patients. This allows the rapid dissemination of thyroid research to the widest possible audience.

Board members will be required to provide summaries every other month (6/year). You will receive the Clinical Thyroidology summary as a WORD file as the basis for your summary and be asked to complete the summary with a 2-week turn-around time. It is expected that it will take 30 – 60 min to complete each summary. The completed summaries will be able to be cited as an on-line publication.
