The American Thyroid Association (ATA) encourages discovery in patient care, research, training, and public policy through scientific meetings, publications, and research grants.

Although about 5% of Americans have thyroid disease, funding for thyroid research has not increased over the last 20 years. Research funding is imperative to answer key questions about the causes of thyroid disease and to develop new treatments.

How You Can Help Make a Difference in the lives of those suffering with thyroid disease

The ATA is building a resource of lasting support for thyroid research grants. Each year over $150,000 is given to young investigators for peer-reviewed clinical and basic science investigations of exceptional merit and promise for years to come

Thyroid Research

The 850 members of the ATA are dedicated to advancing knowledge about the thyroid through research and education, developing new treatments for thyroid disorders, increasing public understanding about thyroid issues, and promoting thyroid-related public health initiatives worldwide. Many ATA members are distinguished leaders who have devoted decades to thyroid discovery; other members are bright young clinicians and investigators building on the knowledge base established by their mentors.

To indicate the wide-ranging importance of thyroid research, here is a sampling of ATA members’ research accomplishments.
